Anyone for Career Bingo?
Studying for the STEM competition!
Desert Heights Preparatory Academy has partnered with Junior Achievement of Arizona ("JA") and starts implementing its programs in 5th grade. We incorporate their curriculum to allow students to make a real life connection and to have some creative insight on career fields for the future.
JA's volunteer-delivered programs foster work-readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy skills, and use experiential learning to inspire students to dream big and reach their potential. With programs designed to help students learn to manage their money, be ready to enter the workplace and to think innovatively, Junior Achievement of Arizona is the perfect partnership for DHPA. While at DHPA, students have an opportunity to participate in the class curriculum activities and may qualify to attend the workshops, competitions, and events off campus.
Junior Achievement by Grade Level
JA BizTown
JA BizTown combines in-class learning with a day-long visit to a simulated town. This popular program allows elementary school students to operate banks, manage restaurants, write checks, and vote for mayor. The program helps students connect the dots between what they learn in school and the real world.
JA It's My Future
It’s My Future offers middle school students practical information to help prepare them for the working world. Students explore career resources to develop the job-hunting skills needed to earn a job.
Following participation in the learning experience, students will be able to:
- Develop the job-hunting skills needed to earn a job.
- Research potential careers.
- Create a basic resume.
- Recognize appropriate behavior for an interview.
- Identify personal soft skills.
JA Finance Park
JA Finance Park helps students build a foundation upon which they can make intelligent financial decisions that last a lifetime, including decisions related to income, expenses, savings, and credit.
The JA Finance Park program is composed of 13 required teacher-taught, in-class lessons. It culminates in a hands-on budgeting simulation that is implemented either at a JA Finance Park facility, mobile unit, or virtual site. Additional extension activities are available for each lesson topic. Lessons are offered in a traditional classroom presentation format designed for middle-grade students, and in a Project-Based Learning (PBL) format created for high school students. Both provide educators a method of delivery that will best meet the needs of their students. (Grades 7-12)
JA Inspire
JA Inspire® Entry is more than a career fair. It brings together the business community and local schools and is designed to help launch middle school students into their future - high school, postsecondary education, and careers beyond. The program consists of three segments: (1) pre-event career-oriented sessions; (2) the JA Inspire event, and (3) a post-event reflection. The JA Inspire event (in-person, virtual, or both) provides students a powerful way to learn about real-world career opportunities and their local economy.
Following participation in JA Inspire Entry, students will be able to:
- Gain insight into career clusters that interest them.
- Make connections with adults who have jobs in careers that interest them.
- See the connection between high school programming choices and careers.

To achieve financial health and wellness, they learn about money-management strategies, including earning, employment and income, budgeting, savings, credit and debt, consumer protection, smart shopping, risk management, and investing. At the conclusion of this program, students will be able to identify how their personal finances affect their quality of life.
